About BillBoy

Where it comes from

BillBoy started as a simple open-source invoicing and accounting tool: bills, quotes, clients, suppliers, projects and a breakdown dashboard. It has since been rebuilt on apicrm, a contact-centred CRM on the same ApiGoat platform, which is why the current version pairs invoicing with a full CRM, bookkeeping, Google Workspace integration and an MCP server for Claude.

The platform

Everything you see is generated from a schema. ApiGoat (GoatCheese) is a schema-driven PHP runtime — Slim 4 and Propel ORM — that turns HJSON table definitions into a consistent admin UI, a JWT REST API, MCP tools and documentation. Behaviours such as tabs, pills, search columns, PDF rendering or Drive storage are parameters on the table, not code. Custom logic goes in wrapper classes with hooks, so upgrades never overwrite your work. The runtime has been in production for more than fifteen years.

Open source, and a hosted option

BillBoy is released under the MIT license: use it, modify it, ship it. The code lives on GitHub; bugs and feature requests go in the issue tracker. If you would rather not run servers, a hosted version with support is available — get in touch.

Who

BillBoy and ApiGoat are made in Québec by Frédéric Vézina (fred@apigoat.com), who has been building and running line-of-business software for small companies for two decades.
